What This Workshop Is

A safe, supportive introduction to strength training—for every stage of your weight loss journey.

Whether you’re preparing for bariatric surgery, currently using medical weight loss options, or navigating life after significant weight loss, one thing remains constant:

Your body needs strength.

This workshop was created in partnership with medical providers at St. Michael Medical Center to help individuals safely build confidence with movement, strength training, and long-term physical independence—without intimidation, pressure, or misinformation.

Who This Is For

This workshop is designed for individuals who are:

  • Preparing for bariatric surgery

  • Participating in a medical weight loss program (GLP-1s, physician-guided weight loss, etc.)

  • Post-surgery and unsure how to return to movement safely

  • New to strength training and unsure where to start

  • Concerned about injury, joint pain, or “doing it wrong”

  • Overwhelmed by conflicting fitness advice online

👉 No prior gym experience required.
👉 No workouts to “keep up with.”
👉 This is education first, movement second.

What You'll Learn

During this small-group workshop, we’ll cover:

🏋️‍♂️ What “Strength Training” Actually Means

  • What counts as resistance training (and what doesn’t)

  • Why strength matters more than cardio alone for long-term success

  • How muscle supports metabolism, joints, balance, and confidence

🧠 How Weight Loss Impacts the Body

  • Muscle loss vs fat loss—and why preserving muscle matters

  • What changes before and after bariatric surgery

  • How medical weight loss medications affect energy, recovery, and training

🧩 How to Move Safely—Right Now

  • Modifications for all fitness levels

  • How to train around pain, fatigue, or mobility limitations

  • What not to do early on (this part matters)

🏠 What to Do Next

  • How to continue safely on your own

  • What to look for in a gym or trainer

  • When (and if) personal training actually makes sense

What This Workshop Is Not

Let’s be clear—this is not:

  • A bootcamp

  • A weigh-in

  • A sales pitch

  • A “push harder” environment

  • A one-size-fits-all workout

This is about education, confidence, and clarity—so you can make informed decisions about your body.

Why BC Fitness

BC Fitness exists to bridge the gap between medical care and real-world movement.

We specialize in:

  • Strength training for longevity

  • Working with medical populations

  • Private, non-intimidating environments

  • Science-based programming (not trends)

Many people leave medical weight loss programs knowing what to do nutritionally—but not how to move safely afterward.

That’s where we come in.
